History

our-history

In the early 1900′s a small building at the corner of Menzies and Superior was built as a family home. Over the ensuing years not only has it housed different families but it has been a neighbourhood general store and a diner style restaurant known as Tex’s Grill.

In mid 1982 it was re-born as the James Bay Tea Room and Restaurant. Over the subsequent years the walls and shelves have become home to an interesting collection of memorabilia and one of a kind items.

There are hand signed pictures of Queen Mum and King George in 1939. Our present Queen, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and other famous people in history.

Over the years generous patrons and staff have gifted us with original paintings and works of art depicting the Tea Room.

People’s generosity has continued onto the shelves with a Royal Doulton China Bulldog, a plate Commemorating the year that 3 kings (1936, George 5th, Edwart the 8th and George 6th), also numerous cups, mugs, and other items that hold wonderful memories for all of us at the Tea Room.

While you are visiting our dining room take a moment to wander around and have a peek at some of the wonderful potpourri.

Our warm and friendly staff and the Tea Room look forward to seeing you soon and often.
